Tickets for trains and domestic flights in Kazakhstan

The railroad network of Kazakhstan is very well developed. The network covers about 16,000 km and is used for both passenger and goods transport. 14 lines connect all major cities of the country by express trains.

In recent years, the local railroad company has invested heavily in the modernization of locomotives and wagons. For example, Spanish trains “Talgo” have been purchased that can travel at speeds of up to 200 km/h. Nevertheless, there are still connections that are offered with rolling stock that dates back to the Soviet era.

The local airline “Air Astana” flies to all major cities in the country. Connections are usually via one of the company’s two hubs: Almaty or Nur-Sultan. Air Astana has been awarded several times in a row as the best airline in the category “Central Asia and India”.

Tickets for trains and domestic flights in Kyrgyzstan

The railroad network of Kyrgyzstan is very small and most of the lines are used exclusively for cargo transport. The only passenger connection runs from the capital Bishkek to Balykchy on Lake Issyk Kul. However, this line is offered only irregularly and with a slow train.

Domestic flights are also rare in Kyrgyzstan. Only between the two largest cities of Bishkek and Osh exist regular connections, which are offered by the local airline AviaTraffic.

Tickets for trains and domestic flights in Tajikistan

Railroads are not very relevant in Tajikistan. The topography of the country makes the construction of railroad lines difficult. The only domestic line runs from the capital Dushanbe to Kulob via Bokhtar. This connection is usually offered twice a week. A direct line from Dushanbe to the second-largest city Khujand does not exist.

The only regular domestic flights are between Dushanbe and Khujand. This connection is offered by the Tajik airline “Somon Air”.

Tickets for trains and domestic flights in Uzbekistan

In recent years, the railroad has become a popular alternative for an overland transfer in Uzbekistan. The reason for this is the expansion of the high-speed network: since 2011, there has been a connection between Tashkent and Samarkand, which was extended to Bukhara in 2016. The very comfortable train, which was developed by the Spanish company Talgo, reaches top speeds of around 220 km/h. This has made it possible to reduce the travel time from Tashkent to Samarkand. As a result, the journey time from Tashkent to Bukhara has been almost halved from the original 7 hours to less than 4 hours. This is, of course, also faster than any possible connection by car.

Fast trains are usually sold out very quickly. Therefore, we recommend that you contact us as early as possible so that we can book your tickets.

A continuation of the line from Bukhara to Khiva is planned. A new railroad station has already been built in Khiva, from which a (slow) connection to Bukhara is offered.

However, it should be noted that the trains do not run with regularity like in Europe. Between the most popular destinations, there is a maximum of 5-6 connections daily (fast and slow trains together).

The local airline Uzbekistan Airways offers flights from the capital Tashkent to all major airports in the country. In addition to the most relevant tourist destinations of Samarkand, Bukhara and Urgench (Khiva), flights are also offered to Nukus, Karshi, Termez, Namangan and Fergana. Connections that do not fly to or from Tashkent are rare. There is an irregular connection between Urgench and Bukhara (only in this direction).
